Balochistan Chief Minister Orders Revamp of Canal System to Tackle Water Theft and Ensure Fair Distribution

Quetta: In response to ongoing challenges with water theft and distribution, Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has directed the preparation of a comprehensive feasibility report for the reorganization of the canal system, including the pit feeder canal. This initiative aims to ensure equitable distribution of agricultural water and address the water scarcity issues affecting the region’s farmers.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, the directive was issued during a meeting focused on the water shortage and improvement projects within the canal system. Chief Minister Bugti emphasized the importance of immediate and long-term strategies to alleviate the hardships faced by agricultural communities. He stressed on concrete actions to rectify the water distribution issues and uphold the rights of legitimate water users.

The meeting, attended by key officials including Advisor for Women Development Department Dr. Rababa Khan Bilidi and Irrigation Secretary Hafiz Abdul Majid, underscored the government’s commitment to resolving these critical issues promptly. The reorganization of the canal system is expected to enhance the efficiency and fairness of water use, crucial for the agriculture-dependent economy of Balochistan.
