BISP Chair Reaffirms Commitment to Benazir Bhutto’s Vision of Women Empowerment

Islamabad, Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Mrs. Rubina Khalid, has reiterated the organization’s dedication to the empowerment and financial independence of women, aligning with the vision of the late Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. This commitment was emphasized during a meeting with a delegation from the National Institute of Management (NIM), Peshawar, at the BISP headquarters.

According to Press Information Department, the delegation, consisting of 18 participants from the 40th Mid-Career Management Course, visited BISP to understand more about the programme’s operations and its impact on the community. During the visit, Mrs. Khalid highlighted how BISP, since its inception in 2008 under the guidance of President Asif Ali Zardari, has prioritized releasing stipends directly to women to foster their financial autonomy.

Mrs. Khalid detailed BISP’s partnerships with various organizations through which they have established Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to provide skill and technical training for beneficiaries’ family members, aiming to lift them out of poverty. She expressed that these initiatives are core to advancing the programme’s mission of women empowerment and social uplift.

The Secretary of BISP, Mr. Amer Ali Ahmad, provided an extensive overview of the program’s key initiatives, including Kafaalat, Taleemi Wazaif, Nashonuma, Undergraduate Scholarship, and the National Socio-Economic Registry (NSER). He introduced a new payment model involving six banks to enhance the efficiency of cash disbursement.

Additionally, Mr. Ahmad discussed the authenticity and utility of the NSER database, which is accessed by various public and private entities for social safety projects. He particularly emphasized the Nashonuma Programme’s role in addressing malnutrition and stunting among mothers and children.
