Islamabad, The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) conducted an exclusive session on Competition Law for UK alumni, providing a platform for direct engagement with the Commission and a deeper understanding of Competition Law’s core components.
According to Competition Commission of Pakistan, the session was attended by seasoned professionals from various sectors, including academia, the legal fraternity, banking, and public and private sector entities, all of whom are graduates of UK universities.
Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu, Chairman of the CCP, addressed the alumni, emphasizing the importance of policing cartels to enhance competition across various economic sectors. Dr. Sidhu highlighted the CCP’s commitment to ensuring free and fair competition to improve services and products for consumers.
The session was also attended by Mr. Salman Amin, Member of the CCP, and Mr. Louie Dane, Senior Economic Advisor from the British High Commission. The event included discussions on provisions of the Competition Law related to prohibited agreements, abuse of dominance, deceptive marketing practices, and mergers and acquisitions. Presentations were delivered by Mr. Ahmed Qadir, Director General of Competition Policy, and Ms. Maryam Zafar, Senior Joint Director of the CCP.
Mr. Salman Amin expressed gratitude to the participants for their insightful questions regarding Pakistan’s regulatory environment. In his closing remarks, Mr. Louie Dane highlighted the significant connections of approximately 1.6 million Pakistanis based in the UK and underscored the importance of a robust competition regime for Pakistan’s economic growth, leading to enhanced productivity, lower prices, and improved technology.
