Cement Exports Surge Despite Drop in Local Sales

Karachi: Cement dispatches in Pakistan reached 3.5 million tons in June 2025, marking a 3% year-on-year decline, according to a report by JS Global. The drop was attributed primarily to a 16% decrease in local sales, a consequence of Eid holidays and monsoon rains that hampered construction activities. However, export dispatches showed a robust increase, rising by 82% compared to the same period last year.

Over the entire fiscal year 2025, cement dispatches saw a 2% year-on-year increase, totaling 46.2 million tons. This growth was driven by a significant 30% rise in export volumes, which compensated for a 3% decline in local dispatches. This marks the fourth consecutive annual decline in local cement sales.

Looking forward, the report anticipates a recovery in cement demand, bolstered by ongoing monetary easing and favorable budgetary measures. However, the sector faces challenges from rising global coal prices, which have increased by 7% in the past three weeks, and continued price pressure in the Northern region.

Among industry players, Fauji Cement Company Ltd (FCCL) has been highlighted as a top pick by JS Global.
