Karachi, Mian Zahid Hussain Chairman of the National Business Group Pakistan and President of the Pakistan Businessmen and Intellectuals Forum, asserted on Monday that the recent surge in terrorist incidents in Pakistan coincides with improved economic conditions and substantial investment deals from friendly countries. He highlighted a direct correlation between these economic advancements and increased terrorist activities, particularly in the regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
According to Pakistan Businessmen and Intellectuals Forum, Hussain, also the President of the All Karachi Industrial Alliance and a former provincial minister, addressed the business community, expressing concern over the martyrdom of 25 Pakistan Army soldiers in a recent terrorist attack. This incident, he noted, has caused nationwide grief. He emphasized the urgency for the government and the army to intensify their efforts in combating terrorism, which he believes is critically undermining the country’s progress.
Hussain called for decisive action against terrorists and their hideouts to prevent further disruption to Pakistan’s development projects and to avoid pushing the country towards bankruptcy. He accused the leadership of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) of jeopardizing Pakistan’s integrity by orchestrating terrorist activities from neighboring Afghan soil.
The veteran business leader stressed that mere condemnation of these incidents is insufficient. He suggested that more effective measures could be achieved through cooperation with the international community and friendly countries. Hussain pointed out the interdependence of stability in Afghanistan and Pakistan, urging the leadership of both countries to collaborate in resolving the security issues to ensure uninterrupted peace and development in the region.
Additionally, Hussain mentioned the extraordinary interest of international organizations in Pakistan’s upcoming elections. He argued against postponing the elections under any circumstances, emphasizing the importance of transparency in the electoral process for political stability. He warned that economic management would be challenging without reducing political tensions.
Hussain acknowledged the current government’s efforts towards economic stability but cautioned that continued political instability post-election could render these measures futile. He foresaw a scenario where Pakistan could be compelled to seek external financial assistance under stringent conditions, further exacerbating the nation’s challenges.
