CPEC Phase II Set for Transformation: PCJCCI Lauds Pakistan’s New Economic Roadmap

Lahore: The Pakistan China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI) has praised Pakistan’s new roadmap for advancing the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The plan focuses on high-tech industrialization, enhanced cooperation among provinces, and sustainable national development. This phase aims to transition Pakistan from infrastructure-led growth to innovation-driven expansion, emphasizing digital transformation and modern governance. The initiative includes declaring 2026 as the “Year of Reform and Modernization,” highlighting efforts to reduce bureaucratic obstacles, foster a pro-investment climate, and boost institutional efficiency.

Nazir Hussain, President of PCJCCI, noted that Pakistan’s approach under CPEC Phase II is both bold and future-focused. He emphasized that high-tech industrialization and innovation-led growth, along with deeper cooperation with China, will open new opportunities for industries, youth, and entrepreneurs in Pakistan. PCJCCI is committed to facilitating this economic transformation. A significant milestone in this phase is China’s pledge to finance 85 percent of the Karakoram Highway Project, underscoring the strengthened economic and strategic ties between the two countries.

Brig. Mansoor Saeed Sheikh (Retd), Senior Vice President of PCJCCI, mentioned that the government plans to start the bidding process for the Thakot-Raikot Motorway within two months. He stated that China’s commitment to KKH financing and enhancing provincial partnerships underscores the strong bilateral relationship. CPEC Phase II is expected to modernize key sectors, support local industries, and create sustainable employment. PCJCCI will continue to serve as a facilitator for enhanced commercial collaboration.

Zafar Iqbal, Vice President of PCJCCI, highlighted the importance of human capital development, particularly empowering youth and women. He stated that this aligns with PCJCCI’s vision of an inclusive, knowledge-driven economy. The organization looks forward to supporting initiatives that enhance skills, innovation, and industrial competitiveness.
