Dalit Professor Faces Harassment After Refusing RSS Meeting

New Delhi: A Dalit professor in Madhya Pradesh’s Sidhi district has reported enduring harassment and threats after declining to attend a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) meeting reportedly organized by his colleagues.

According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, Ramjas Chaudhry, serving as a guest faculty member at the Government Arts and Commerce College, claimed that four faculty members—Raj Kishor Tiwari, Sandeep Sharma, Vipendra Diwedi, and Dr. Suresh Kumar Tiwari—targeted him following his refusal to attend the meeting in October 2023. Chaudhry recounted incidents of harassment, including being locked in a bathroom and forced to chant slogans.

Chaudhry reported further intimidation, stating that casteist slurs were directed at him and threatening graffiti appeared in his classroom. He alleged unidentified individuals were brought in to intimidate him, prompting him to flee to his native Satna district out of fear for his safety.

Despite filing complaints with local authorities, Chaudhry noted a lack of action. He accused the Superintendent of Police of destroying his written complaint and threatening him with arrest for seeking police intervention.

After Chaudhry filed a legal petition, the harassment reportedly increased, leading to his suspension. The Madhya Pradesh High Court later reinstated him and directed the state government to address his concerns, yet Chaudhry claimed the harassment continued unabated.
