Diplomats Gather in Karachi to Chart Path for Sustainable Tourism

Karachi: In a significant move to promote sustainable tourism, the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), in partnership with the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development (ICCD) and Al Baraka Bank Pakistan, hosted a high-level event at the FPCCI Head Office in Karachi. The meeting, themed “Transforming Tourism for Community Development,” aimed to explore innovative strategies for sustainable tourism through bilateral and multilateral partnerships.

The gathering was attended by ambassadors, consuls general, high commissioners, and other diplomats from countries including Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Algeria. The focus was on leveraging Pakistan’s cultural heritage and natural landscapes to drive community empowerment and economic growth.

Mr. Atif Ikram Sheikh, President of FPCCI, highlighted the potential of these partnerships to foster community development, environmental conservation, and economic growth. He announced the adoption of a resolution to initiate a Tourism Exchange Program among Islamic countries, aimed at enhancing business and cultural ties.

Mr. Saquib Fayyaz Magoon, Senior Vice President of FPCCI, described the event as a pivotal step in transforming tourism into a catalyst for community development. He emphasized the need for international partnerships to unlock sustainable opportunities for local economies.

Atif Hanif, President and CEO of Al Baraka Bank Pakistan, underscored the importance of building resilient communities through collaborative efforts in tourism. He stressed the role of the event in bridging gaps between diplomats and businesses to create ethical and inclusive growth strategies.

Khawaja Ashraf Hussain, Director of Events at ICCD Pakistan, presented the objectives and activities of the upcoming 2nd Edition of the Sustainable Tourism Forum, scheduled for January 2026 in Karachi.

Diplomats from various countries emphasized the role of multilateral partnerships in driving sustainable tourism, contributing to Pakistan’s economic vision. The event featured discussions and presentations on global tourism models adapted to Pakistan’s context, with participants expressing optimism for future collaborations and policy reforms.
