Bhopal: A catastrophic explosion at the Kharmaria Central Security Institute Ordnance Factory in Jabalpur, India, led to the death of two individuals and injuries to 15 others, with two of them critically wounded. The incident unfolded in a facility known for producing bombs and explosives within Madhya Pradesh state.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the blast was reported today in the factory’s refilling section. The facility, which operates under the Department of Defence Production, plays a pivotal role in the manufacturing of ammunition for the country. Preliminary findings suggest that the explosion was caused by a malfunction in the hydraulic system, triggering a powerful shockwave felt up to five kilometers away. Local residents experienced significant tremors due to the blast’s impact. M.N. Haldar, Chief General Manager of the Ordnance Factory, stated that a Pechora missile was being handled during the incident, raising questions about the operational safety protocols.
In response to the explosion, Indian military forces have secured the area, barring any access to the site. An official inquiry committee has also been established to thoroughly investigate the cause of the explosion and to assess the existing safety measures at the facility. The formation of this committee indicates a serious approach towards understanding and mitigating risks in ordnance production, which has now been brought to the forefront by this tragic event.
