Firing by troops on civilians in Pulwama denounced

Srinagar, December 29, 2012 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, pro-liberation leaders and organisations have strongly condemned the indiscriminate firing by Indian troops on civilians in Pulwama saying that it has once again exposed the mindset of Indian armed forces.

The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik, in a statement issued in Srinagar termed the firing incident as a reflection of terrorist mindset of the Indian armed forces. “Armed forces fire indiscriminately on innocent people. This is highly unacceptable that they even did not spare the hospital staff and the ambulance carrying patients. This has once again exposed the mindset of armed forces,” he said, adding that the armed forces had no regard for humans and the humanity.

“The humanists, demanding punishment to the culprits involved in the rape of an innocent girl in Delhi, should take notice of the tyranny and suppression which the civilians in Kashmir are subjected to,” he demanded. Meanwhile, a team of JKLF leaders led by Showkat Ahmad Bakhshi visited the Bone and Joints Hospital Srinagar to enquire about the health of the people injured in the firing.

Liberation leader, Javed Ahmed Mir, in his statement denouncing the firing on civilians in Pulwama, said, “This is unfortunate. The army doesn’t have any respect for humans.” The All Parties Hurriyet Conference leader, Muhammad Yousuf Naqash, in a statement said that firing on peaceful civilians was an act of state terrorism. He termed the announcement of inquiry into the incident by the authorities as an attempt to pacify the anger of the people, adding that such probes in the past could not bring the perpetrators to justice.

The spokesman of the forum patronised by the veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, in his statement said, “We strongly condemn the firing on the innocent people. It is brutality on part of the armed forces.”

The Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Political Movement (DPM) in its statement denouncing the use of brute force on civilians in Pulwama appealed to the world human rights organisations to take cognisance of Indian state terrorism in the occupied territory.

On the other hand, the High Court Bar Association of occupied Kashmir in a statement termed the firing on innocent people in Pulwama as a cowardly act of Indian troops. The lawyers observed strike and boycotted the court proceedings in protest against the incident.
