Foreign Secretary Opens Regional Export Control Conference in Islamabad

Islamabad: Today, Foreign Secretary Muhammad Syrus Sajjad Qazi inaugurated the Regional Conference on Export Control Programme for Dual-Use Goods in Central Asia, a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad, and the European Union. The conference aims to enhance cooperation on strategic trade controls and nonproliferation among countries in the region and beyond.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, participants from Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, the US, the EU, the UN, and various international organizations are discussing national strategies for controlling the trade of dual-use goods and technologies. Foreign Secretary Qazi highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to nonproliferation and the need to balance national security with the economic benefits of legitimate trade. He emphasized Pakistan’s adherence to international standards, including those set by the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR), and Australia Group (AG).

The conference showcases Pakistan’s active role in international nonproliferation efforts and its compliance with UNSC Resolution 1540, which aims to prevent the spread of nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons.
