FPCCI Calls for Extension of Tax Return Deadline Amid Filing Challenges

Karachi: The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has called on the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to extend the deadline for filing income tax returns for the Tax Year 2025. The current deadline, set for October 15, 2025, has been proposed to be extended until October 31, 2025, in light of several challenges faced by taxpayers.

Atif Ikram Sheikh, President of FPCCI, communicated these concerns in a letter to Rashid Mahmood Langrial, Chairman of the FBR. The letter outlines the difficulties taxpayers and stakeholders are encountering, including delays in obtaining essential financial documents and technical issues with the FBR portal.

Mr. Sheikh emphasized the importance of adopting a taxpayer-friendly approach, urging the FBR to act swiftly to address these challenges. He noted that extending the filing deadline would provide relief to taxpayers dealing with these constraints and would help them meet their legal obligations without undue stress.

The Senior Vice President of FPCCI pointed out that many taxpayers are struggling with procedural and logistical challenges, which are compounded by the slow performance and technical glitches of the FBR’s online portal. These issues are hindering the smooth submission of returns.

Additionally, the Vice President of FPCCI highlighted the difficulties businesses face in integrating their Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems with the FBR’s digital invoicing requirements, further causing delays in compliance.
