Government and Ulema Unite to Tackle Religious Intolerance

Islamabad: In a significant move to address religious intolerance, Ulema from various schools of thought and government officials have reached a consensus to prevent unlawful acts committed in the name of religion.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the agreement was announced during a joint news conference held in Rawalpindi, featuring Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar and several Ulema. The conference was convened following concerning incidents, including the issuance of controversial fatwas against Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa. Minister Tarar condemned these actions, highlighting the Supreme Court’s statement that reaffirms the belief in the finality of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) as an integral part of every Muslim’s faith.

Minister Tarar emphasized that neither the law nor societal norms condone issuing decrees that challenge fellow Muslims’ beliefs. He revealed that legal actions have already been initiated against those responsible for spreading hate through such decrees, with assurances of stringent measures to prevent future occurrences.
