Islamabad: The Senate was briefed today on the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure uninterrupted internet access across the nation. The disclosure came during the Question Hour in the Upper House, where the Minister of State for Information Technology, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, addressed various concerns related to internet connectivity and safety.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Minister Khawaja informed the Senate that an undersea cable responsible for internet connectivity had been damaged. She reassured that the cable is expected to be fully functional by the end of next month. Emphasizing the government’s commitment, she noted that high-speed internet is crucial for boosting IT exports, which are vital for the country’s economic growth.
In addition to addressing the cable repair, Minister Khawaja also responded to queries regarding online safety. She stated that the government is implementing measures to combat online scams and frauds, reflecting a dual focus on enhancing internet infrastructure and protecting citizens from cyber threats.
The steps taken by the government aim to provide reliable and swift internet service to facilitate various sectors, including education, business, and information technology, which are increasingly dependent on robust digital connectivity.
