Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert predicting significant rainfall and thunderstorms across Punjab and Sindh in the coming 36 to 48 hours, with potential risks of urban flooding and disruptions.
According to Press Information Department, the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) of the NDMA reported that a deep depression near Runn of Kach Gujarat, India, is moving towards southeast Pakistan, affecting most parts of Sindh including Nagarparkar, Tharparkar, Thatta, and several other districts with heavy rainfall expected. Similarly, the active monsoon system over Punjab is likely to impact the twin cities, the Potohar region, and other central and southern areas of the province.
The NDMA has cautioned that the anticipated downpour could lead to urban flooding in city centers and increase flows in local nullahs and rivers, potentially affecting daily routines and causing damage to weak infrastructures. Relevant departments have been alerted to mobilize emergency response teams and resources to address any potential emergencies.
Residents are advised to stay informed through the ‘Pak NDMA Disaster Alert’ mobile app and heed local authorities’ instructions to mitigate the impact of the severe weather conditions.
