Srinagar: The cabinet of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, has approved a resolution advocating for the restoration of the region’s statehood, revoked in August 2019.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the resolution’s draft is ready, and Chief Minister Abdullah is scheduled to present it to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi within the next few days. The decision was made during a meeting that included Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chaudhry and ministers Sakeena Masood Itoo, Javed Ahmad Rana, Javaid Ahmad Dar, and Satish Sharma.
This move follows statements from IIOJK Congress chief Tariq Hameed Karra, who declared the party’s refusal to join the cabinet unless statehood is reinstated. Additionally, NC President Farooq Abdullah expressed optimism about the central government’s imminent action, citing a forthcoming Supreme Court hearing on the matter scheduled within two months.
