IIOJK High Court Sets Date to Review LG’s Authority to Nominate MLAs

Srinagar: The High Court of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) has scheduled a session to deliberate on a plea that disputes the lieutenant governor’s authority to nominate five members to the Legislative Assembly.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Chief Justice Tashi Rabstan has announced the formation of a special division bench to address the public interest litigation (PIL) filed by petitioner Ravinder Sharma, who contests the nomination powers of the lieutenant governor. This decision comes after the Indian Supreme Court, on October 14, directed Sharma to seek a ruling from the high court.

The court has expedited the hearing, setting it for Monday, in response to counsel D K Khajuria’s request for an urgent review of the matter. Sharma, a senior vice president of the Pradesh Congress Committee and former legislative council member, was present during the proceedings.
