Indian Forces Kill Two Maoist Guerrillas in Odisha, Arrest Two in Jharkhand

Boudh, In a recent security operation in Odisha, Indian troops killed two Maoist guerrillas and arrested two more in neighboring Jharkhand, escalating tensions in regions already affected by Naxalite insurgency.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the operation conducted by the elite anti-Naxal force’s special operations group in the Parhel reserve forest area of Boudh district resulted in the death of two insurgents. The Director of Intelligence, Soumendra Priyadarshi, confirmed the recovery of the bodies and identified the site as a long-standing conflict zone within the state.

This incident precedes the upcoming polls in Boudh scheduled for May 20, highlighting ongoing security concerns in the area. The region has witnessed at least seven similar incidents over the past four months, indicating a persistent pattern of violence. Historical data reveals that between 2019 and 2023, Odisha experienced 154 military actions against Maoists, resulting in 42 deaths and the arrest of 145 individuals across three of its most affected districts: Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Malkangiri.

In a related development in Jharkhand, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) reported the arrest of two Maoist guerrillas, Rajendra Bhuiyan and Vishnu Viswakarma, following a targeted operation in the Husainabad area under Palamu district’s jurisdiction. These arrests are part of broader efforts to quell the insurgency that has impacted several Indian states.
