Islamabad, In a decisive move to combat the theft of essential utilities, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has ordered a widespread crackdown against electricity and gas theft across Pakistan. The minister presided over a significant meeting in Islamabad, where he tasked the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) with spearheading this campaign and established specialized teams to address the issue.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during the meeting, FIA officials also briefed the minister on a recent boat accident in Greece and discussed the impact of the government’s actions against illegal financial transactions (“Hundi” and “Hawala”) on the Pakistani rupee. Minister Naqvi directed stringent legal measures against those involved in power and gas theft, as well as human trafficking and illegal financial practices.
Highlighting the indiscriminate nature of the upcoming operations, Minister Naqvi, through a message on the social media platform X, emphasized that there would be no discrimination in the crackdown and that all offenders would face legal consequences. These measures are part of a broader initiative aimed at ensuring equitable distribution and access to power and gas for all citizens by curbing the widespread theft of these vital resources.
The directive underscores the government’s commitment to upholding law and order and safeguarding public utilities, marking a critical step towards addressing the challenges of utility theft and ensuring the stability and integrity of Pakistan’s energy sector.
