Srinagar, The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) has commemorated the anniversaries of the deaths of Ashfaq Majeed Wani and other notable figures in the resistance against Indian control of Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the ongoing struggle for self-determination.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Wani, a key figure in the Kashmiri resistance, was killed by Indian troops on March 30, 1990, in the Hawal area of Srinagar. Additional commemorations include Shabbir Siddiqui and a group of resistance members who were killed on the same date in 1996 in the Dargah Hazratbal area, alongside other significant losses over the years.
JKLF spokesperson Muhammad Rafiq Dar in Islamabad highlighted the enduring legacy of these individuals, stating that their sacrifices have kept the Kashmir issue in the global spotlight and are considered invaluable to the freedom movement. Dar reaffirmed the organization’s dedication to pursuing freedom from Indian rule, echoing sentiments that the loss of life in the struggle will not be in vain.
The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) also honored the memory of these martyrs, pledging that their sacrifices would continue to fuel the quest for Kashmir’s right to self-determination and bring their efforts to a successful resolution.
