Srinagar, The 94th death anniversary of Mirwaiz Maulana Ahmadullah Shah, a revered religious scholar and former president of Anjuman Nusrat-ul-Islam, was solemnly observed today in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The event highlighted his significant contributions to the region’s religious and social life.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the current president of Anjuman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, was unable to attend the ceremony due to being under house arrest. Despite his absence, the event saw the participation of staff, teachers, and students from the Anjuman, who gathered to pay homage to Mirwaiz Ahmadullah Shah’s enduring legacy in spiritual leadership and community reform.
The attendees commemorated Shah’s role in defending the finality of the Prophethood of Muhammad (PBUH) and initiating a movement to safeguard Kashmiri Muslims from religious and ideological threats. They also recalled his efforts against Dogra tyranny, noting his leadership in signing a historic memorandum to the Viceroy of India that demanded the restoration of political and social rights for the Muslims of Kashmir.
The Anjuman lauded Shah for his educational initiatives, particularly the founding of Islamia Oriental College, which has played a pivotal role in the community’s educational upliftment. The ceremony included tributes to his exemplary character, moral integrity, and dedication to the teachings of Islam.
The commemoration concluded with Quran khwani at the Islamia Oriental College, honoring not only Mirwaiz Ahmadullah Shah but also Mirwaiz Rasool Shah, the founder of Anjuman Nusrat-ul-Islam, along with other past presidents, officials, and devotees of the Anjuman.
