Lahore Bolsters Security with Army and Rangers for Chehlum Imam Hussain

Lahore: In preparation for the upcoming Chehlum Imam Hussain, the Punjab government has requisitioned the Pakistan Army and Pakistan Rangers Punjab to ensure foolproof security across 15 districts. This deployment is part of a coordinated effort to maintain peace and order during the significant religious observance.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab announcement issued on 07 August 2024, the provincial Home department has confirmed the mobilization of 37 companies from the army and rangers. A detailed request, sent to the Federal Ministry of Interior, outlines the deployment of 14 companies from the Pakistan Army and 23 companies of Pakistan Rangers Punjab. The troops will assist local police from the 17th to the 27th of Safar ul Muzaffar, ensuring the secure conduct of Chehlum ceremonies.

The districts receiving additional security forces include Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Gujrat, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Sargodha, Khushab, Bhakkar, Multan, Jhang, DG Khan, Muzaffargarh, Layyah, and Bahawalpur. This decision was taken following a request by the Punjab Police, who sought additional support to manage the expected large gatherings and processions safely.
