On the occasion of International Workers’ Day, Local Government Minister Punjab, Zeeshan Rafique, emphasized the indispensable role of workers in driving societal progress and development. According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, Minister Rafique expressed his commitment to improving the welfare and rights of workers across the province, under the guidance of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif. He acknowledged the historical significance of May 1, dating back to the Chicago labor movement, which marked a pivotal moment in securing basic rights for workers. However, he noted that there remain several unresolved issues that require continued attention and action. Minister Rafique reiterated the provincial government’s dedication to ensuring fair wages and providing essential services such as health and education for workers’ families. He stated that the government is actively working to enforce minimum wage laws within the Local Government Department and called for a broader
societal acknowledgment of the workers’ contributions, beyond just Labor Day celebrations.
