The Lahore Police have escalated their crackdown on the beggar mafia, registering 1,140 cases and making 1,143 arrests this year, as part of a city-wide anti-gadagari campaign. According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, Capital City Police Officer Bilal Siddique Kamiana highlighted that the operations have been particularly robust in Iqbal Town and Model Town Division, where a significant number of professional beggars have been detained. The police have been directed to deal decisively with the beggar mafia, particularly those exploiting children for begging. CCPO Kamiana emphasized the importance of checking the criminal records of all arrested individuals and called on urban donkey dealers to help discourage these criminal activities. The ongoing campaign aims to dismantle the organized networks behind this exploitation and ensure the safety and security of the public spaces in Lahore.
