Lahore Sees Enhanced China-Pakistan Cooperation in Textile and IT Sectors

Lahore, Provincial Industry and Commerce Minister Chaudhry Shafi Hussain visited the Chinese Consulate where he met with Chinese Consul General Zhao Shiran. The discussions focused on boosting cooperation in the textile industry, information technology, and additional sectors.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, the meeting outlined significant developments, including the construction of Garment City over 2,000 acres near Lahore and the initiation of the Nawaz Sharif IT City project. A labor colony is also planned within Garment City. Minister Hussain highlighted the affordable labor costs in Punjab as an incentive for increased Chinese investment and emphasized the robust security measures in place for Chinese nationals working on development projects. He also noted that advancing solar technology remains a governmental priority, with hopes for further Chinese engagement in this area.

Chinese Consul General Zhao Shiran affirmed the necessity of heightened economic ties between China and Pakistan, expressing readiness to support the Garment City and IT City projects. He also praised the ongoing efforts and introduced the upcoming Digital Economic Conference in Beijing. The meeting was attended by notable figures such as DG Industries Asif Ali Farrukh, CEO Punjab Investment Board Jalal Hasan, and DG Punjab Information Technology Board, among others.
