Mirwaiz Criticizes IIOJK Authorities for Electricity Crisis

Srinagar, Senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has criticized the authorities in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) for the worsening electricity crisis.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, addressing the Friday congregation at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar, pointed out that although electricity issues have persisted for decades, the situation has never been this bad at this time of year.

He shared that people from across the valley have been expressing deep concern about the lack of electricity, emphasizing that it is the fundamental duty of the ruling dispensation to provide this basic amenity. Mirwaiz highlighted that despite the electricity produced in the territory being exported elsewhere, Kashmiris, who should have the first right to it, are living in darkness. “We are told that great prosperity has come to us when the basic facility of electricity is nowhere. Lack of electricity is severely impacting our daily life, leaving our homes and business powerless,” he stated.

Mirwaiz noted that the issue is not with people failing to pay. He explained that in recent years, power tariffs have increased three times, and smart meters have been installed throughout the region, yet electricity remains elusive. He urged authorities to immediately address the electricity shortage and ensure an uninterrupted power supply to people who are facing severe disruptions due to its unavailability.
