New Delhi: President Donald Trump’s purely US-centric policies have landed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has embarked on his Washington visit, in hot waters.
According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, political analysts commenting on Modi’s visit noted that the “trip follows the humiliating deportation of 104 Indian migrants, shackled and chained, sparking outrage back home.”
Trump, in his second term, is intensifying immigration policies, with India caught in the crossfire. With 725,000 illegal Indian immigrants in the U.S., Modi is seeking to balance appeasement with negotiation.
H-1B visas, crucial for Indian professionals, remain at risk, even as Trump praises skilled migrants.
“Trade is another battlefield. India has cut duties on high-end motorcycles to please Trump. Yet, fears persist of escalating demands, especially in defense deals,” said one analyst.
Analysts view that Trump is seeking India’s support against China. “But India treads cautiously, wary of Trump’s transactional diplomacy.”
With Trump at the helm in the United States, analysts indicate that Modi may face challenges in safeguarding India’s interests in Washington while maintaining a strategic partnership with the U.S. as an unpredictable ally.
Modi, they argue, will become caught between BRICS countries and the U.S., as Trump announced a 100 percent tariff for BRICS countries if they use an alternative currency to the U.S. dollar.
