National Assembly Committee on Commerce Tackles Economic Growth and Trade Issues

Islamabad: The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Commerce convened today at Parliament House to deliberate on strategies for boosting Pakistan’s economic and trade performance. Chaired by Muhammad Jawed Hanif Khan, the meeting aimed to assess the Ministry of Commerce’s recent initiatives and identify challenges that hinder further progress in international trade relations.

According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the committee’s discussions centered on a comprehensive review of the Ministry’s performance, examining export growth, market expansion efforts, and the effectiveness of current trade policies. The members provided insights and recommendations on improving trade facilitation, regulatory frameworks, and support mechanisms for local industries and exporters, emphasizing the need for robust policy oversight and effective implementation.

The session also set the stage for future meetings focused on critical issues like the challenges associated with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and regional trade enhancement. The committee plans to engage with various stakeholders, including the Ministry of Power and NEPRA, to address these issues comprehensively. Additionally, the abolition of the Final Tax Regime (FTR), which has faced opposition from exporters, will be another significant topic of discussion in upcoming sessions.
