National Conference Leader Advocates for Kashmiri Detainees’ Rights

Srinagar: National Conference leader and Member of Parliament, Agha Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, has called on the Indian government to urgently address the conditions of Kashmiri prisoners detained outside their home region.

According to Kashmir Media Service, in a letter to India’s Home Minister Amit Shah, Ruhullah expressed deep concerns over the treatment of detainees, especially young individuals held without trial, emphasizing the critical impact on their developmental years. He criticized the extended detentions as unjust and detrimental to their personal and professional futures.

Ruhullah also highlighted the harsh differences in climate between the Kashmir Valley and other parts of India where prisoners are held, suggesting a transfer of these detainees to facilities within Kashmir to better accommodate their cultural and environmental needs. He pointed out the severe hardship imposed on families who must travel great distances to see their incarcerated relatives, adding significant physical and financial strain.

The MP urged immediate action to mitigate these issues, emphasizing the need for both legal and humanitarian remedies to improve the detainees’ conditions and support their families.
