National Highway Authority completes half of the 14 projects in Balochistan

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Communications has said that NHA has completed half of the projects being constructed by NHA in Balochistan. The total number of projects is 14, he added. He told that NHA has spent Rs. 4 billion out of the allocated Rs. 8 billion PSDP for projects in Balochistan.

He told this while talking to the MNAs and Senators of Balochistan, who met in Ministry of Communications to review progress of those projects. The meeting was attended by Abdur Rahim Mandokhel, Maj Gen® Abdul Qadir Baloch, Ismail Buledi, Mir Wali Badini and others including Secretary Communications and Chairman NHA.

The Minister told that in order to have even-handed distribution of funds amongst the provinces, National Highway council had allocated equitable funds at the beginning of this financial year. He told that 38% of NHA roads network is in Balochistan and it need commensurate funds for their development. Earlier the Chairman briefed the honorable members on the progress of projects.

The member pointed out that worked on Quetta-Kalat-Chaman Road, Khuzdar-Ratodero road and Gwadar-Turbat-Hoshab has lagged behind and needs special attention of NHA in terms of allocation of funds. They pointed out that if there is any security concern, NHA should take up the matter with provincial government and F.C for providing security to staff working on sites.

The honorable members also demanded performance based award of contract in Balochistan and said categorically the contract of those contractors should be cancelled who are not able to perform and have not met their targets.
