Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) successfully hosted its inaugural National Industrial Disaster Preparedness and Response Exercise at its headquarters on August 21, 2024. This two-day event, led by NDMA Chairman Lt General Inam Haider Malik, marked a significant advancement in Pakistan’s readiness and response strategies for industrial disasters.
According to Press Information Department, the exercise aimed to underscore the importance of proactive management and coordination between governmental bodies and key industrial sectors to mitigate the effects of potential industrial incidents. The event drew participation from Provincial Disaster Management Authorities, rescue agencies, and major industry players from the chemical, petroleum, and gas sectors, including prominent companies such as Lucky Core Industries Limited and Engro Fertilizer Company Limited.
The exercise highlighted the need for strengthened disaster response mechanisms and was praised by participants for its role in enhancing the nation’s industrial disaster management capabilities. It also served as a platform for collaboration among various stakeholders, reinforcing the collective commitment to safeguarding industries and communities from the adverse impacts of disasters.
Senior representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Industries and Production, and Ministry of Defence Production attended the event, emphasizing its national significance and the government’s dedication to improving disaster preparedness across all sectors.
