NDMA Issues High-Level Flood Alert for River Chenab Amidst Expected Heavy Rainfall

Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a high-level flood alert for the River Chenab, forecasting significant rainfall and potential flooding through August 18, 2024. This weather event is expected to affect several villages and towns along the river’s floodplains, including Marala, Khanki, and Qadirabad.

According to Press Information Department, the National Emergencies Operation Center has warned of rain, wind, and thundershowers with isolated heavy rainfall in the catchment areas of River Chenab. This weather pattern is likely to lead to high to very high river flows, posing risks of inundation in low-lying areas and potential damage to infrastructure. NDMA has advised the public to stay updated on weather conditions and follow safety instructions issued by local authorities.

In response to the emerging threat, NDMA has launched the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert application, available on Google Play Store and iOS App Store, to facilitate timely alerts, advisories, and guidelines to residents in the affected regions. All relevant departments have been instructed to take necessary precautions to mitigate the effects of the anticipated flooding and extreme weather conditions.
