Nineteen persons arrested during night raids in Pulwama

Srinagar, May 01, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Indian police and troops continuing their massive crackdown arrested several people during raids in different areas of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday night.

At least 19 more persons were picked up by the forces’ personnel from Gudoora, Newa and Parigam areas of the district during the fresh raids.

A police official said the arrested persons were being interrogated for their alleged role in various stone pelting incidents in the area.

On Monday night as many as 21 persons were picked up by the Indian forces from Murran village of the district.

These arrests come just days ahead of the so-called Indian parliamentary elections in Pulwama and Shopian districts of south Kashmir to be held on May 06.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement (JKSM) spokesman in a statement in Srinagar strongly denounced the fresh arrest spree in Pulwama and Shopian districts ahead of shame polls. He said dozens of youth have been arrested during night raids in the run up to the polls drama. He said that sham elections could neither change the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir and nor they could be a substitute to the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.

The spokesman also demanded release of all illegally detained Kashmiris before the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan.
