OIC Contact Group Advocates for Prompt Resolution of Jammu and Kashmir Dispute in Islamabad

Islamabad, The OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir has urged for a swift and peaceful settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir conflict, emphasizing the importance of adhering to United Nations resolutions during a meeting in Banjul, The Gambia.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the meeting occurred on the sidelines of the 15th Islamic Summit of the OIC, where delegations from various member states supported the Kashmiri population’s legitimate aspirations for self-determination in line with existing UN Security Council resolutions.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammad Ishaq Dar, leading the Pakistani delegation, highlighted India’s actions that purportedly aim to disenfranchise the Kashmiris. He detailed how fundamental rights and freedoms are being systematically denied to them, and described the situation as one of fear and repression designed to stifle any dissent within the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Dar also called on the international community to recognize and respond to inflammatory statements and claims made by Indian officials concerning Azad Jammu and Kashmir. He stressed the need for India to release all political prisoners, lift restrictions on banned political entities, rescind the actions taken on 5 August 2019 along with subsequent measures intended for demographic manipulation, and fulfill the UN Security Council’s directives.
