Karachi: A contingent of more than 5 thousand officers and subordinate staff of City District Government Karachi equipped with 150 pumps, machinery and vehicles carried out dewatering and cleaning work in different areas of city after rain on Thursday.
District Coordination Officer for Karachi Mohammad Hussain Syed visited various areas of city along with EDO Municipal Services Masood Alam to check the dewatering and cleaning work.
He specially inspected the condition of major city drains including Gujjar Nullah and Orangi Nullah and also reviewed construction work of Ziauddin Chowrangi Nullah during his visit.
The DCO Karachi paid a visit to KDA Chowrangi and Nagan Chowrangi and checked the condition at low lying areas after Thursday’s rain.
On this occasion he expressed hope that the citizens would not have any problems due to rains as the city government had already made all arrangements to deal with any situation.
He said that the concerned officials and required machinery had been deployed in different parts of city to carry out immediate cleaning and dewatering work after rains.
“Works and Services, Municipal Services, Fire Brigade and other essential services departments were directed to ensure round the clock work during rains and provide immediate help to citizens.
Heads of these departments have been instructed to ensure their availability in their offices and kept their cell phones open so that they could be contacted in any emergency situation,” the DCO said.
On his visit to Gujjar and Orangi Nullah, he said due to advance cleaning and de-silting of storm water drains, rain water was not accumulated at any place, however the municipal services department was ready to clear any hurdle in the flow of water in city drains.
DCO Karachi said that city government had prepared itself to deal with any situation in case of further rains and all the machinery and manpower will be put on high alert during rainy season
