Islamabad: In a significant diplomatic engagement, Pakistan and Azerbaijan have pledged to deepen their cooperation across several key sectors, including energy, trade, defense, and people-to-people connections. This commitment was solidified during a meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and his Azerbaijani counterpart, President Ilham Aliyev, held in Islamabad today.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, President Zardari expressed that both nations enjoy robust relations with potential for further advancements in various fields. He emphasized the importance of increasing interactions between their peoples and business communities to strengthen bilateral ties further.
Highlighting the strategic role of Gwadar Port, President Zardari pointed out its potential benefits for Central Asian countries and Azerbaijan, promoting regional trade, connectivity, tourism, and shared economic prosperity. He expressed Pakistan’s intention to foster sustainable and results-oriented engagement with Central Asian Republics and Azerbaijan.
On his part, President Aliyev stressed the importance of promoting business-to-business relations to boost economic ties and suggested exploring collaborative opportunities in the renewable energy sector. The meeting concluded with a banquet at the President’s House, attended by dignitaries including Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, federal ministers, parliamentarians, diplomats, and journalists, where President Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong support for Azerbaijan.
