Vienna: Pakistan and the International Atomic Energy Agency have signed the fifth Country Programme Framework for 2026-2031. The agreement was formalized by the Chairman of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, Dr. Raja Ali Raza Anwar, and the Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation at IAEA, Hua Liu. The signing took place on the sidelines of the ongoing IAEA General Conference in Vienna.
According to Radio Pakistan, the IAEA’s support through this framework aims to enhance Pakistan’s capabilities in several key areas. These include emergency preparedness, radioactive waste disposal, the safe transport of nuclear materials, and the use of Artificial Intelligence in regulatory processes. This collaboration is expected to bolster Pakistan’s infrastructure in managing nuclear technology and safety.
Dr. Raja Ali Raza Anwar, speaking at the event, emphasized that the signing of this Country Programme Framework reaffirms Pakistan’s commitment to the peaceful applications of nuclear science and technology. The framework sets the stage for Pakistan to advance its nuclear capabilities with the aim of meeting international safety and technological standards.
