Pakistan and Indonesia Secure $10.70 Million in Trade Deals at Jakarta Expo

Jakarta: At a business dinner hosted by the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Karachi, Pakistani and Indonesian businesses finalized agreements and memorandums of understanding totaling US$10.70 million. The event took place on the sidelines of the Trade Expo Indonesia, celebrating the robust participation of approximately 25 businesses and dignitaries from both nations.

According to Pakistan Indonesia Business Council, the agreements were inked during the Indonesia-South and Central Asia Business Forum (INASCA) and the Trade Expo Indonesia 2024. H.E. Teguh Wiweko, the Acting Consul General of Indonesia, highlighted that the deals spanned diverse trade sectors, including commodities like copra, gum copal, cocoa, desiccated coconut, ginger, and spices, as well as fast-moving consumer goods and auto parts.

“The deals cover various sectors of trade cooperation, including commodities such as copra, gum copal, cocoa, desiccated coconut, ginger, and spices. Additional trade agreements were also made in the fast-moving consumer goods and auto parts sectors,” added the Indonesian envoy.

H.E. Teguh Wiweko commended the participation of Pakistani colleagues and hailed the visit as a significant step toward deepening economic and trade ties between Indonesia and Pakistan, particularly with business communities in Sindh Province.

Abid Nisar, Chairman of the Pakistan-Indonesia Business Council, and Shamoon Zaki, President of the Pakistani-Indonesia Business Forum, expressed their gratitude for the support from the Consulate General and the Government of Indonesia. Nisar noted, “The bond between our two nations is rooted in history and culture, having flourished into a robust partnership of mutual benefit, especially in trade and commerce.” He expressed hope that the MoUs would lead to mutual economic benefit and prosperity.

Ahmad Syofian, Ph.D., Consul for Economic Affairs, noted that the agreements reflect collaborative efforts from a diverse range of stakeholders, including private companies, micro, small, and medium enterprises, and government entities.

During the event, Naveed Gilani, Country Head of Apical Pakistan, received an award from the Government of Indonesia, presented by the Acting Consul General. This award recognized Mr. Gilani and Apical’s unwavering commitment to supporting Indonesian palm oil in Pakistan. He is also the largest importer of Indonesian crude palm oil (CPO) to the Pakistani market.

In a series of business events this year, the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia facilitated around 25 businesspeople from Sindh Province, including members of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Hyderabad Chamber of Small Traders and Small Industries.
