Islamabad, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Turkiye’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan today, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation with Turkiye across various sectors including trade, investment, technology, and defense.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Prime Minister discussed the current levels of bilateral trade, which he believes are not reflective of the potential of the relationship between the two countries. He stressed the need for concerted efforts to achieve a bilateral trade target of five billion dollars within the next three years, a goal previously agreed upon by both nations’ leadership.
Prime Minister Sharif also encouraged Turkish companies to consider expanding their investment in Pakistan and possibly relocating their industrial units to the country. The discussions also touched on regional and global issues, notably the situation in Gaza, where the Prime Minister praised Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s efforts for peace.
He underscored the importance of a two-state solution to achieve lasting peace in the Middle East and reiterated his invitation to President Erdogan to visit Pakistan for the 7th meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, highlighting the strong mutual support on key national issues.
