Pakistan and UK Commit to Strengthening Bilateral Ties Ahead of Commonwealth Meeting

Islamabad: In a significant development aimed at enhancing bilateral relations, Pakistan and the United Kingdom have pledged to boost cooperation across various sectors. This commitment was reinforced during a phone conversation between Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Ishaq Dar, and the UK’s newly appointed Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, David Lammy.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the discussion set the stage for continued engagement as both nations prepare for the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in October. Deputy Prime Minister Dar expressed Pakistan’s eagerness to collaborate with Secretary Lammy on several key issues, including climate change, youth opportunities, and expanding trade and investment.

The conversation also touched on the significance of the Commonwealth ties and the positive role of the British Pakistani community in fostering strong bilateral relations. Dar congratulated Lammy on his new role, expressing optimism for sustained momentum in Pakistan-UK relations under the new UK leadership.

Secretary Lammy reciprocated the sentiments, congratulating Dar on Pakistan’s recent election to the UN Security Council and reaffirming the UK’s support for Pakistan during its tenure.
