Islamabad, At the 15th OIC Summit Conference in Gambia, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar emphasized the urgent need for unity among OIC member states to push for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and to support the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Senator Dar expressed Pakistan’s grave concern over the ongoing violence in Gaza and the West Bank, describing the situation as a genocide against Palestinians. He called for concerted efforts to secure an unconditional ceasefire and continuous humanitarian aid to the region. Additionally, he voiced strong support for Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations and the resumption of peace talks aimed at realizing a two-state solution, with pre-1967 borders and Al-Quds Al-Sharif as the capital.
The Deputy Prime Minister also highlighted the parallel issue of Indian actions in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly following India’s controversial measures on August 5, 2019. He appealed to the OIC to implement its action plan on the region, to demand an end to human rights abuses by India, and to support the reversal of India’s unilateral changes to the area’s demographics and laws.
Dar condemned the global rise of Islamophobia and proposed that the OIC work closely with international social media platforms to regulate content that is blasphemous or discriminatory against Muslims. He lauded the OIC’s appointment of a Special Envoy on Islamophobia as a positive step.
Additionally, he criticized the recent increase in anti-Pakistan and Islamophobic rhetoric by Indian political leaders, which he stated threatens regional stability. The Deputy Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s significant sacrifices in combating externally sponsored terrorism and urged the OIC to leverage its collective influence for global economic growth and climate change mitigation, highlighting the catastrophic floods in Pakistan in 2022 as a dire warning of the impacts of climate issues.
Lastly, Senator Dar called for reforms within the United Nations, particularly the Security Council, to enhance its democratic structure and effectiveness in maintaining global peace and security.
