Pakistan Completes Major Projects in First Phase of CPEC, Adds 8,000 MW to Grid

Islamabad, Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal announced the completion of major development projects under the first phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), significantly enhancing the country’s power infrastructure by adding 8,000 MW to the national grid. The announcement came during a policy dialogue at the Belt and Road Investment Forum.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, The Minister highlighted the transformative impact of CPEC, a key component of the Belt and Road Initiative, on Pakistan’s economy. Ahsan Iqbal projected that by 2035, Asia will constitute half of the global GDP, emphasizing the strategic importance of enhancing connectivity between South Asia, China, Central Asia, and the Middle East through new corridors. Finance Minister Mohammad Aurangzeb also noted that the initial phase of CPEC focused on building critical infrastructure, including roads, electricity, and ports, setting the stage for future economic expansion.
