Pakistan Demands India Reverse 2019 Actions in Kashmir

Islamabad: Pakistan has renewed its call for India to retract the controversial measures implemented on August 5, 2019, that altered the autonomous status of Jammu and Kashmir, now termed by Pakistan as Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

According to Kashmir Media Service, during her weekly press briefing in Islamabad today, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch urged India to restore conditions conducive to a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir conflict, consistent with United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. Baloch marked the upcoming fifth anniversary of the revocation of Article 370, which she described as a “dark day” for Kashmir, asserting that the Indian government’s actions were illegal under international law and aimed at changing the demographic makeup of the region to disenfranchise the local population.

The spokesperson reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to supporting the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination through diplomatic, political, and moral backing, advocating for a resolution in line with international norms and UNSC directives.
