Law Minister Leads Inaugural Meeting on Independent Drug Pricing in Islamabad

Islamabad: Today, the newly established committee to recommend frameworks for independent drug pricing in Pakistan convened for its first session under the leadership of Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the committee’s discussions were focused on identifying the most effective model for setting drug prices independently, taking into account diverse perspectives from all involved stakeholders. This approach underscores the government’s commitment to developing a transparent and equitable mechanism for drug pricing that could potentially stabilize market dynamics and ensure the availability of essential medications at reasonable prices.

The session concluded with a decision to create a detailed working paper that will serve as the foundation for the committee’s proposals. This document is expected to encapsulate the insights and recommendations from today’s discussions and will be reviewed in the next meeting. The establishment of this committee represents a significant step towards refining the healthcare landscape in Pakistan by aiming to balance affordability with the economic realities of the pharmaceutical industry.
