Karachi, Pakistan has raised concerns over the escalating human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir, India’s significant arms build-up, and aggressive posturing, stating these factors pose a direct threat to regional and global peace in South Asia. These issues were brought to light during a general debate at the UN Disarmament Commission in New York, where Counselor at the Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the UN, Gul Qaiser Sarwani, delivered a pointed address.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Sarwani emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir remains an internationally recognized disputed territory and rebuffed claims of it being an integral part of India. The Pakistani envoy expressed grave concerns over the human rights situation in the region and highlighted the security challenges Pakistan faces from terrorism, which he attributed to support and financing by India.
Sarwani reiterated the call for the final disposition of Jammu and Kashmir to be determined through a United Nations-supervised plebiscite, allowing its people to decide their future. This stance underscores Pakistan’s commitment to a peaceful resolution of the dispute, aligning with international law and UN resolutions.
