Pakistan, Iran Agree to Increase Bilateral Trade Volume to $10b


Islamabad, Pakistan and Iran have agreed to increase their bilateral trade volume to 10 billion dollars and promote cooperation in various fields, including political, economic, trade, and cultural sectors.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the agreement was reached during delegation-level talks held in Islamabad. The Pakistani delegation was led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while Iran’s President Dr. Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi headed the Iranian side.



During a press stakeout following the talks, President Raisi stated that the two countries plan to expand trade and business activities in border areas, aiming to improve the economic conditions for people in these regions. He also mentioned that both Pakistan and Iran are determined to combat terrorism and organized crime.



President Raisi expressed optimism that his visit to Pakistan would serve as a turning point for expanding bilateral relations between the two nations. He emphasized the shared commitment to strengthen ties and address common challenges.



Prime Minister Sharif echoed these sentiments, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations with Iran. He mentioned that Pakistan and Iran share a historic connection rooted in common faith and culture. The Prime Minister also noted the importance of transforming border areas into zones of economic progress and prosperity.



Additionally, Prime Minister Sharif commended Iran’s stance on the Palestinian issue, stating that Pakistan supports the Palestinian people. He urged Muslim countries to collectively raise their voices from various forums in support of Palestine.



The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude to Iran’s leadership for supporting the oppressed people of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, expressing hope that they will eventually achieve their right to self-determination.



During the visit, both leaders inaugurated Iran Avenue, and President Raisi planted a sapling on the premises of the Prime Minister’s House.
