Pakistan-Malaysia Trade Set to Surge Following High-Level Discussions

Karachi: Vice President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), Muhammad Aman Pracha, has expressed optimism about the outcomes of recent high-level meetings between the leadership of Pakistan and Malaysia. He described these talks as a significant step forward in strengthening bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

In a statement issued on Monday, Pracha emphasized that the visit of Prime Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and other senior officials to Malaysia, would pave the way for deeper collaboration across multiple sectors.

“This visit is a strong guarantee of enhanced relations based on mutual trust,” said Aman Pracha. He noted that under the leadership of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysia has become a developed economy. Pracha expressed encouragement over both countries committing to joint projects in trade and investment.

Pracha welcomed Malaysia’s decision to import $200 million worth of halal meat from Pakistan, viewing it as a promising development for Pakistan’s growing halal industry. “There is vast potential for further expansion in this sector,” Pracha stated, highlighting the role both nations can play in promoting the global halal industry.

He also pointed out the increasing Malaysian imports of Pakistani rice, seeing it as a positive trend in the overall trade relationship. Pracha stressed the importance of private sector participation alongside government efforts to fully capitalize on the economic potential between Pakistan and Malaysia.

“Expanding trade is not solely the government’s responsibility,” he added. He urged the private sector to explore new markets and partnerships to unlock sustainable growth and mutual prosperity.

The FPCCI Vice President underscored that collaboration in halal food, information technology, energy, infrastructure, investment, and the digital economy would bring long-term benefits to industries in both countries and strengthen people-to-people ties.

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the recent visit reflects the enduring partnership between Islamabad and Kuala Lumpur, built on mutual respect, shared values, and economic cooperation.
