Pakistan Reaffirms Support for Afghan Peace and Stability

Islamabad: Pakistan has reiterated its commitment to supporting Afghanistan in its pursuit of peace and stability, expressing gratitude to Jan Egeland, Secretary General of the Norwegian Refugee Council, for highlighting the humanitarian challenges in the region.

According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Pakistan’s Foreign Office emphasized the importance of sustained international engagement with Afghanistan. The statement suggested that the global community should not have withdrawn its support after the conflict, but instead should have fostered socioeconomic conditions conducive to Afghan prosperity.

For decades, Pakistan has provided refuge to over four million Afghans, with recent repatriations involving those residing without legal documentation. The Foreign Office noted the slow progress on resettling Afghan nationals who were promised relocation to Western countries.

The statement also highlighted the underfunding of UN humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, with only 37.5 percent of necessary funds secured in the previous year. Pakistan underscored its historical, religious, and cultural ties with Afghanistan, committing to ongoing support for humanitarian efforts and the pursuit of lasting peace.
