Pakistan Sets Sights on Electric Vehicle Revolution with New Policy

Islamabad: In a move aimed at transforming Pakistan’s transport sector, Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb presided over a meeting focused on the New Energy Vehicle (NEV) Policy 2025. The policy seeks to tackle challenges in electric vehicle adoption and production, setting ambitious goals for a shift to clean energy.

According to a statement by Press Information Department, the meeting was convened at the Finance Division and attended by key government officials, including the Federal Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain, Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, and senior officers from relevant ministries. The Secretary of Industries and Production provided a comprehensive presentation on the current state of the electric vehicle industry, highlighting necessary policy interventions for smooth NEV adoption.

Discussions during the meeting centered on overcoming barriers to electric vehicle production, enhancing manufacturing processes, and addressing infrastructure needs. The focus was also on policy corrections to streamline EV production, tackle supply chain challenges, and boost private sector investment. The Finance Minister underscored the significance of coordinated efforts to align policy targets with Pakistan’s environmental and economic priorities.

The meeting concluded with a pledge to accelerate initiatives for the NEV Policy’s implementation, paving the way for a cleaner and more sustainable future in Pakistan’s transportation sector.
