Islamabad, Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif has reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to enhancing its relationship with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) during the annual meeting of the organization’s Defence Ministers held in Astana, Kazakhstan.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Minister Asif underscored Pakistan’s intent to deepen collaborative efforts within the SCO framework, particularly in areas of regional security and defense cooperation. The discussions at the meeting spanned several critical issues including counter-terrorism, the ongoing situation in Afghanistan, and the challenges of border management and maritime security.
During his address, Minister Asif also voiced Pakistan’s grave concerns about the increasing tensions in Gaza, advocating for a resolution that aligns with international law and United Nations directives. He emphasized Pakistan’s long-standing position on seeking a fair, comprehensive, and permanent solution to the Palestinian conflict.
In addition to the main sessions, Minister Asif engaged in bilateral talks with his counterparts from other member states, focusing on strengthening defense ties and shared security interests.
The gathering also provided a platform for member states to evaluate their national security priorities amidst evolving geopolitical dynamics and emerging extremist threats.
